Re: looking for a teacher
5 dan in which ranking system?
Still officially AGA 5d but I play so irregularly these days that I am probably only 3d or 4d over the board (but hopefully still 5d in terms of knowledge, theory and the ability to contribute).

Re: looking for a teacher
For a year long commitment, it is important to get the right teacher or teachers. Try several teachers, before you settle on some. Above 5d is an artificial criterion you might as well drop, especially since at your KGS 9k level you could not tell the difference between 5d- and 6d+ well.

Depending on your timezone you could try the Nordic Go Academy.

AGA 5d is only about KGS 2d, so your criterion is too vague.

Re: looking for a teacher
@braindeadjoseki: Before and after taking on a teacher, gain experience by playing plenty of games, doing puzzles in all skill categories (life & death, tesuji, jōseki, opening, middle game, and endgame), and replaying professional games. Once you have a good bit of background experience, you can benefit copiously from the instruction of stronger Go players. I did not realize at first that a good bit of background experience in Go was necessary to make sense of what a stronger player could teach me. I even thought I would magically improve with just a few pointers from a stronger player. Then I realized that the key to improving at Go is to study and play constantly, only relying on a teacher for those difficult-to-understand concepts.
