Unusual games

Post by Chew Terr »

Have ya'all had any odd or unusual games, recently? Last night I played an odd one online. First, we took the star points. Next, my opponent took tengen. I was surprised, but not as surprised when his next two moves were two 3-3 invasions under my star points. I built two walls facing each other, and he took the center star between them. It became a huge fighting game, with him trying to use the tengen stone, and me trying to use my huge influence. I had just started rereading Attack and Defense, so I particularly wanted to use my strength to win fights, instead of building territories directly.

Anyways, I do not want a review, because I did not really treat the game very seriously once I saw my opponent's fuseki. But it was an odd and interesting game, so I figured I may as well share it as an oddity.

Does anyone else have any unusual or interesting games to share?

Here's one I played recently, that also featured a double 3-3 invasion by my opponent. It was a serious game, though. I don't think my opponent was very happy with the result, since he didn't stick around to review. :?

I don't usually get to play moyo games like this. It was fun. :)

Weird, I just had a game last night where I killed two 3-3 invasions. The first was completely reasonable to kill (though I stumbled during the process, R1 should obviously be at S1), the second was pretty much me getting lucky.

Hmmm. Between watching that game and reading some of the recent stuff in the WMS-Magicwand Malkovich, I feel like I've learned a few things today about fighting unreasonable 3-3 invasions. Thanks for sharing =D

I'm amazed Black didn't play N16 at move 43 - did he not realise the ladder worked??

Well, like I said, it was a fast game, which is why I wasn't as serious in my reading as I would've been in a serious game. And I'm embarassed to admit, I thought my stones to the side broke the ladder, which they don't... quite.

Edit: Sigh, back to chapter one of Lessons~

Don't be too embarrassed - check out when my 4k opponent misread an even easier ladder at move 62. Of course, It's slightly mitigated by me missing O12 at move 55...
