@ alejo: LOL! Already checking out the opponents? Good for me then, that I haven't yet revealed my server nicks. :blackeye: Well, I'm happy to play anyone! (even though I suck horribly at giving a handicap of more than 2 or 3 stones max) And I'm looking forward to meeting you in Madrid, too, of course.

@ RBerenguel: I'm not EGF 5k but EGF 6k (never came higher than 1522 rating-wise, followed by a steep dive..), you must have misread that from my sidebar info. Anyways, until January there's still time for training and improvement and maybe we do play each other in the tournaments, who knows? And if not, we can still play just for the fun of it. :)

Total misread Ember indeed. Headache and NGA lesson at the same time... Can't focus :) And indeed, we can play for fun, that's the point of a tournament, isn't it?

:D more than a KGS pickup game, but the real seriousness is for 5d+ I think... I'm sure Antti is going there to win the tournament, I'm just looking into winning all games.. unless I can't :P

Rules qustion: Should I use my old EGF rating?
I tried searching for it at the EGF site, but I failed.
The European Go database says this:
"If a player has not participated at any considered tournament for some time (this period is set to 2 years for dan players, 12 months for 1-10 kyu, and 6 months for 11-20 kyu; the actual year/month is not counted), he/she drops out from the current rating list. However, the player's rating is kept in the database of players and it is used once he/she appears again at any tournament in the future. "

With me not playing for the last 3 years, I'd enter as 10 kyu, slightly weaker than I'm now... completely unfair and I don't know if I can modify it on arrival...

I think up to dan level you can modify on arrival without too much fuss, anything larger I think needs "something stronger." Anyway I wonder if it has some strong impact in GoR... After all, there is the "declared rank" and the "GoR rank" lines in the graph... I guess there are far more knowledgeable people in the forum than me with this :)

@ alejo: The registration page uses the information given in the EGD. On that page the organizers wrote that if you want to start with a rank that doesn't fit your latest EGF-rating in the EGD you can do so but have to explain why in the remarks field. So I'm sure that you'll have no problems with your request as three years is a long time where a lot can happen. :-)

Thanks, I hadn't checked the registration page

I've checked my records and it's been 6 years since my last tournament. Longest go pause ever?

I'm sorry to say this... but the main feature of the tournament has been cancelled... I won't be able to attend the tournament next week.

It seemed to be very interesting but I must skip it for personal reasons. I hope I can attend the next tournament in Barcelona in February.

@ alejo: That's a shame, really... But if it's for personal reasons, then it can't be helped. I hope everything will get sorted out soon!

Only a few days remain and I'm already REALLY, REALLY excited to be there! Image We also registered for the cocktail event and that makes me even more nervous, (very) probably seeing all the pros (and among them my absolutely most favourite one!!) from close distance.. maybe getting my fan signed... (is it be appropriate to even think of asking that...?)

I hope to meet some of you guys there, too, in colour and 3D! ;-)

Until then I'll continue to be like this (and maybe until after the event, too): ImageImageImage

I see you're not following my study journal, then. ;-)

I wrote two posts on the event: Number one is about the cocktail event on the night before the game and number two is on the pro event, the amateur event and my poor performance (although that was put into perspective) in the latter one. Hope you enjoy it. :-)
