In the book, I could not understand Onegin - apparently he had a crush on Tatiana, but when she confessed she liked him, he backed off and uttered something that all men say to a woman they are not interested in, even tho it is 190 years later "I love you dearer than a brother"

But when he returns to Russia after going abroad for 3,5 years after killing Vladimir Lensky, and sees Tania married to his cousin, he suddenly decided to have her, even tho she is married. I mean, what the hell?

I really liked Tania's last words to Onegin when he was insolent enough to try to talk her to leave her husband for him:

"I love you (I admit it),
but I am bound by fate with another
and I will be faithful to him until I die"
