timezone options

Post by xed_over »

No daylight savings time options in the timezone dropdown list?

I picked Pacific Standard Time (gmt-8), but that's only correct half the year -- and not this half.

And I don't want to have to pick between that and Pacific Daylight Time (gmt-7) twice a year.

Can't we just get a generic Pacific Time and let the server handle switching between Standard and Daylight Time?

(same questions applies to timezones other than Pacific too :) )

In usercontrol panel -> board prefrences -> right under the timezone option it asks summer time/ DST. Just select yes or no.
I'm thinking...

I think daylight savings time switches on at different times of the year, depending on the country(and even the legislation at the time). Having something like that work effortlessly and automatically for every user might be complicated, I think.

thanks, I missed that

still, the question remains... I have to flip this switch myself twice a year?

true

no its not, every other OS (Linux, Windows, Mac) does it automatically. The board should get the general TZ setting from the user, the query the OS for the DT offset

Actually, every OS does it "automatically". Every once in a while a file with the timezones is updated manually at the source, and then is downloaded in the next OS update. Granted that the timezones don't change much, but when they do it has to be changed manually.
