To be fair, his shape isn't that bad, and the white positions don't exist to lend context.
Tactics yes, Tact no...

Black's not about to run out of liberties and should control the whole board the way white is playing, and white's not likely to manage a checkmate, so I think black has the advantage here.

I don't know if this was mentioned somewhere on the previous 14 pages.

Recently I watched "White Vengeance" on Netflix. It's a Chinese Qin - Chu period tale centered around the Hongmen Banquet. A significant part of the movie is a battle between strategists Zhang Liang & Fan Zeng at weiqi.

Warring States (now streaming on Netflix)--a movie about Sun Bin, died 316 BCE-- has two scenes that show (I think) go, at 41 minutes and at 52 minutes.

At 41m: full width shows 19 lines a "common" rough board, dark.
At 52m: only shows 16x15, not full width, "elite" golden board

Both show interesting similar stones. They appear to be literally stones with green/white swirl vs. blue/white swirl. They are shaped sort of half-oviod that is about as long as it is tall. It is possible they are faceted, but I couldn't really tell. Reminds me of the picture of the Russian go stones that made the rounds a year or two ago.

I think the 19 lines is anachronistic--17x17 was popular at the time--but what about the stones?

Not sure whether this can be called mainstream, and it’s also not exactly a sighting … so I thought I better put it in hide tags :D

I’ve tried to find the lyrics on the net, but to no avail … I’d be extremely thankful if the friendly crowd here could help gather the words together … I’m hard of hearing, and so the music is kind of a noise when I try to understand the text.

Found in the ☯GS forum “link collection” thread, thank you!

Enjoy :-)

Amusing :) My best guess:
? one more game of go
one more game of go
one more game of go

You sit there on your pillow
With both legs crossed beneath
sunk into deep concentration, I wonder
What will your next move be?

I played a good fuseki
But I ?? in the eye
atariiii
atariiiii
time and time and time again
When we play the game of go

Though you give me three stones
I have to fight like mad
You seem to catch up so easily
from that disadvantage that you had

I started with a big moyo
then you just come crashing in, saying
atariiii
atariiii
time and time and time again
When we play the game of go

[Japanese]

atariiii
atariiii
time and time and time again
When we play the game of go

The yose soon ended
the game seems pretty close
It turned into a jigo
I know I had to lose
atariiii
atariiii
time and time and time again
When we play the game of go

one more game of go
one more game of go
....

My turn on the lyrics:

Go, Go; the game of Go
Go, Go; the game of Go
Go, Go; the game of Go
Go, Go; the game of Go

You sit there on your pillow
With your both legs crossed beneath
Sunk into deep concentration, I wonder
What will your next move be?

I played a good fuseki
But I lose the semeai

Atariiiiiiii
Atariiiiiiii
Tell me time and time again
When we play the game of go

Go, Go; the game of Go
Go, Go; the game of Go
Go, Go; the game of Go
Go, Go; the game of Go

Though you give me three stones
I have to fight like mad
You seem to catch up so easily
From that disadvantage that you had

I started with a big moyo
then you just come crashing in, saying

Atariiiiiiii
Atariiiiiiii
Tell me time and time again
When we play the game of go

(Japanese talking here)

Atariiiiiiii
Atariiiiiiii
Tell me time and time again
When we play the game of Go

Go, Go; the game of Go
Go, Go; the game of Go
Go, Go; the game of Go
Go, Go; the game of Go

The yose soon ended (The game of Go)
The game seems pretty close (The game of Go)
Hey, It turned into a jigo (The game of Go)
And no one had had to lose (The game of Go)

Aaaaaaaah
Aaaaaaaah

Atariiiiiiii
Atariiiiiiii
Tell me time and time again
When we play the game of go

Go, Go; the game of Go
Go, Go; the game of Go
Go, Go; the game of Go
Go, Go; the game of Go

Uuuuuuuuuuuuuuh

Go, Go; the game of Go
Go, Go; the game of Go
Go, Go; the game of Go
Go, Go; the game of Go

Uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuh

Go, Go; the game of Go
Go, Go; the game of Go
Go, Go; the game of Go
Go, Go; the game of Go

And another one …

Lyrics from the YouTube page:

When I find myself in time trouble
20 second byo-yomi
There will be a throw in, tesuji..

For though I may be eyeless
There is still a chance for a seki
Fight until it's yose, tesuji..

Tesuji, tesuji
Tesuji, tesuji
There will be a throw in, tesuji

I don't know if these have been mentioned before but the "Inspector Chen" mysteries by Qui Xiaolong abound in go references. Sorry if I can't remember exactly which ones since at this point I have read eight of them.
