Sometimes, while playing online, I notice mistakes from weaker players in situations that are "standard" to me. That often triggers me to link them to a page on SL explaining the concept. And if there is no page, I will build it.

Here's two links to recent pages I made that I thought might be useful to some people here:

ProtectBothSidesInTheCorner

I think this is a tesuji that most dan players know, while most DDK don't, so it is probably something you learn somewhere along the way as an SDK, and it should be suitable for that level.

BigSacrificeToGetAWall

I wrote this when a 3 dan expressed surprise that I considered this situation "standard", so this is probably something that is familiar to stronger dan players, but not weaker ones. It should be suitable study material for dan players and strong kyu players.

Enjoy!

The "big wall" game examples are very nice. But I think it would help to enlarge the initial diagrams to show more of the left side. Otherwise the introduction is confusing (at least to me) -- I initially assumed the left edge of the board was nearby. The left side position actually makes a big difference to the outcome. For example, if :b8: (deliberately not shown, I know) can be one point to the left of the B cutting stone, the whole sequence fails.

Yes, it is not perfect this way. The thing is, the corner might be close (as in example 1) or it might not be (example 2), and the shape of the sacrifice stones can be different (again, examples 1 and 2 differ). I tried to extract the common component, but it isn't entirely satisfactory.

I've changed it with some half black/white stones. Opinions?

I find the "big wall" examples very good, too.

If you know these patterns, memorising joseki is much easier!

If I am allowed to make a small comment:
In the example 4-4 ogeima enclosure, in my opinion both 12 and 14 are joseki mistakes. Maybe you could add that?
