KGS applet blocked after installing the latest Java Update
After installing the Java v7 update 55 this morning on my rig, the KGS applet is blocked by Java Security
. I did try to fiddle with the options in the java menu (control panel), but unfortunately to no avail. Does anybody else have the same issue? And if yes did anybody find a workaround (And just to be precise I'm not interested in downgrading the java version or reducing the security level to low)?

Re: KGS applet blocked after installing the latest Java Upda
What do you mean by blocked? What does the message say?
Just to clarify - you are not referring to the security prompt, right? Because that is normal. In the most recent Java updates all applets will bring up a security prompt, even the ones on Oracle's website. You have to hit the check box that says you trust the app. You can also hit the drop-down at the bottom to have it remember your choice in the future if the prompts bother you.
I tested CGoBan with Java at the default "High" security level and it was able to run, although it did lag for a moment before starting after I upped the security from "Medium." I'm running Java 7u55 64-bit on Windows 7 SP1 64-bit.

Re: KGS applet blocked after installing the latest Java Upda
So the msg says "Application Blocked by Security Setting". The settings on my rig are set to "Medium", and I'm also running Java 7u55 on Windows 7 SP1 (64-bit). A screenshot of the msg box below.

Thanks for the link Uberdude, but the Update55 doesn't have the "edit site list" option :/, else i'd have already used it

Strange. If your security settings are on "Medium" then that is not supposed to happen. The definition of "Medium" is that all Java applications will run after giving you a prompt, certificate or no. This could be an unfortunate bug with Java.

I'd wish for Java to disappear by now for "end user stuff." Too big in enterprise, though.

Re: KGS applet blocked after installing the latest Java Upda
I had this problem with java a few months ago too. What I did was I went to the security settings in java (sorry, I don't remember what the window was called or how I got to it) and I added the kgs website as an exception to their security settings. Since then, I've had no problem with java blocking kgs.

Re: KGS applet blocked after installing the latest Java Upda
Problem Solved, It seems somehow i had an older version still installed on my rig (I wonder how that even happened) which explains the wrong java panel that i was getting despite having the update 55

Re: KGS applet blocked after installing the latest Java Upda
Does the stone placement sound and other sounds work correctly on java 7 update 55? I have a couple of older java versions installed. After I installed the newest version I got the same problem as PotatoDono had, but I don't want to risk uninstalling earlier versions if it's going to cost the sounds.

Re: KGS applet blocked after installing the latest Java Upda
I'm running into similar problems on my Mac book pro. I changed my Java security setting to allow the exception and now I can "run" it, but when I try to do anything (like type in my password and play) the application won't respond and I have to force quit it. I've been told that this is the best place to play go for newer players. It's a shame that the best community for playing online go seems to be on a server with such a buggy client.

Re: KGS applet blocked after installing the latest Java Upda
I also have a macbook pro (running 10.9). What i encountered was that sometimes the Client doesn't have the focus after starting, so it won't respond to keyboard input. In these cases i just have to click once on the dock-icon of CGoban and everything works fine. Maybe that is also the case on your macbook.
Besides it is not KGS that is buggy, but the apple-provided java, that produces several issues.
