Any thoughts?
I've labeled the groups above with letters for convenience...
As it stands prior to the black move, B C D and E are all weak and about to engage in a running fight. A and F are strong.
I think that B is quite weak, compared to the others, and so if black starts running with it and makes it heavier, white can lean by chasing it with C, and then use that to attack D with E. In the meanwhile, B only lives on dame, and doesn't have a lot of impact on the rest of the game. For this purpose, I am just assuming a series of one space jumps, possibly with white peeps on the left. With the trade, black is exchanging 4 stones on a relatively small scale for 4 stones on a larger scale. Assuming white can't get too much more out of the aji of E than black can with B, black seems ahead after the trade apart from the center strength that white built. That said, white was going to build center strength one way or another.
Later on, there is also some question of the safety of G that will come into play, and I would much rather have a more open center and potential for forcing moves than to have a string of heavy stones and be more sealed in as black.
