on screen stones should be square!
The symmetry of Go is the symmetry of a square. Square stones reflect that.
I think I am so I think I am.

Re: on screen stones should be square!
The circle has more axes of symmetry than any other shape. I think the board should be round.
Still officially AGA 5d but I play so irregularly these days that I am probably only 3d or 4d over the board (but hopefully still 5d in terms of knowledge, theory and the ability to contribute).

Very funny indeed
Still I wonder what a goban tiled like my bathroom with square stones would do with my perception of the game. Is there any Go software that has square stones as an option?

Why not taking a "standard goban" and change the rules of the game so that we have a "border wrap"DrStraw wrote:The circle has more axes of symmetry than any other shape. I think the board should be round.
That's actually a sphere goban...
[edit]I post that as I just solved the 19x19 yesterday night so I need something more challenging now
ok... end of dreaming, back to study

I tried toroidal go quite a lot in my early days of playing. Ladders are interesting.oca wrote:Why not taking a "standard goban" and change the rules of the game so that we have a "border wrap"DrStraw wrote:The circle has more axes of symmetry than any other shape. Re: on screen stones should be square!
Good idea. While you're at it, please place the square stones in the spaces and not on the intersections. It would make go a good deal easier imo.
Patience, grasshopper.

That's nice and all, but did you use donuts as stones?DrStraw wrote: I tried toroidal go quite a lot in my early days of playing.
If something sank it might be a treasure. And 2kyu advice is not necessarily Dan repertoire..

The empty points are indeed squarescyclops wrote:The symmetry of Go is the symmetry of a square. Square stones reflect that.
And the stones are actually square inside, they hide their intentions behind their outer rounding.
