STOLEN!
My bike just got stolen, along with my backpack which had Making Good Shape in it. DAMMIT! My life has just gone to detritus lately, over and over and over again.

Sorry to hear about this.
Call the local used bookstores if you have time. The thief may be dumb enough to try to sell it. Not only might you get your books back, but most states require that the seller present ID when selling to a used bookstore and this may be enough to recover the bike too.

Re: STOLEN!
fwiffo - sorry to hear this. More than losing the actual monetary value, if you're like me, this just "gets" you. Really annoying.
Huh? Where do you hear this?

Re: STOLEN!
I just remembered my backpack also had some pay stubs in it, and those have my social security number.
That is going to be a huge pain to deal with if somebody starts using that.
It's just been one thing after another. My computer broke, and as soon as that got fixed, my monitor broke, And my sister is going through a divorce and financial difficulties and illness, and may need to borrow money. And my Dad has brain cancer, and my girlfriend has cancer and won't talk to me about it. And her mom just had emergency angioplasty and I've been working late at work every day because we're just overloaded right now. And just as I got home tonight, I found out lightning seems to have fried my DVD player.
And no, I'm not exaggerating or making stuff up. All that detritus has happened to me in just the past couple months.
I'm prepared for like one or two disasters at a time, but this is just too much.

Fwiffo, that sounds like a lot of weight on your shoulders. You have my sympathy. I'd really like to buy you a beer. Damn internet. Hang in there.
Patience, grasshopper.

There's always the religious quote that I think of whenever I think life is too hard. I know it applies here. The quote is, "I never said it would be easy, I only said it would be worth it."
Fwiffo, hang in there. I know things seem hard, but they WILL get better.
things always can become worse
Sure, but I've found that the opposite is also true, and happens more frequently (at least to me).
My plan to become an SDK is here.

Wow, that's rough. If you're ever in the chicago area, I'll buy you the alcoholic beverage of your choice...

Wow, you are going through a lot right now. It must be tough. Hang in there, bro.

My jaw dropped to the floor when I read everything that has happened to you.
Ive have only had similar circumstances. Just remember you've got a forum of people rooting for ya.
