Canadian Open 2014

Post by Yukontodd »

In a few days, I'll be leaving the Yukon to head down to Vancouver to take part in the biggest Go tournament in Canada, the Canadian Open!

Yes, I'm excited about it. But I'm wondering what I can expect? There has been virtually no propaganda about this tournament and/or any events surrounding it. There is no hotel named for folks to stay at. Where are you staying?

I'm at the Coast Mountain a couple blocks down from Selkirk street where the Open is taking place.

I'm spending money to get there, money to stay there, in the Coast Mountain there in the right neighborhood ... who else is going to be there? Up for a pick-up game in the lobby? When are you getting in, when are you able to meet for drinks, pick-up-game(s), and Go related fun? Have you heard any news about it, any vendors going to be there, any pros likely showing up for simuls or lectures?

If you're going to be there, and want to get in some side games and/or dinner or whatever, message me, and I'll certainly exchange numbers so we can text message what's going on and look for some OTB meet-ups. If that sounds good?

edit: yes, I meant the Coast Hotel, not the sports clothing store. Anyway, hope to see some folks there.

I write Go-ing Shodan, a blog about trying to get through the sdk's. If you want to check it out, tenuki.

It would be nice if I had the time to go to any tournament. Sadly, life is always busy. Would be cool to actually play over the board for once.

Good luck to you at the Open!

I have a co-worker who plans on going, as he lives just over the border.
