19x19 first game 2 handicap please find my error :)

Post by Fllecha »

Hi all,

This is my first post, and I attached my first 19x19 game between me and Igown at 8 kyu level (2 handicap)

I am looking for errors, be gentle because I played 80 games in 9x9 board but never played on 19x19 ;-)

I understand life and death problems, mainly doing tsumego and playing 9x9 so I'm not a complete beginner, but I don't understand direction of play and fuseki ecc...

Sometimes the comuter doesn't play the perfect move, I'm aware, so if you can look even for its mistekes it's a plus for me.

Thanks all!

Hi and welcome Fllecha !

I'm not strong enough to really gives you advices but I noticed you played against Igowin at 7kyu.

I think you may also try to set the computer level at it's strongest, and use more handicap stones. I think that will help you getting stronger... but that's just my two cents guess...

I think the first unusual move is :b4: I will more play it at D6 or C6 like this :

yes, it's stange because I learn some basic joseki (not many, maybe 7 main lines) and that angle approach is answered by the moves you said, as you can see what I replyed on the top right. This is really strange, maybe I answered without thinking which is very bad of course :)

thank you that helped very much. I was reviewing the game and I started some variations in the points that you suggested!

If I can ask: the rest (mainly last part) of the game was more or less played well?

Definitely try doing that. Playing close to even against computer programs, especially at levels below which they are using MCTS, you can learn some bad habits. Not so much when they are using a MCTS evaluator, but it isn't really practical to get a MCTS based program playing as weak as 7 kyu (without making its play very erratic)
