Hilarious / corny / old-fashioned 'western' Go board games
Pictures mandatory! I'll go first:
Hilarious because: The 'office attire' and the presence of many large office plants in the background. And the casual 'let's play this at 120 degree angles from each other' pose.

Re: Hilarious / corny / old-fashioned 'western' Go board gam
There is an old, well-known picture. I have a copy somewhere but not in digital form. I think it was an add, maybe for Camel cigarette, and maybe in Life magazine. I found it hilarious.
Does anyone know which I mean and have a copy?

Still officially AGA 5d but I play so irregularly these days that I am probably only 3d or 4d over the board (but hopefully still 5d in terms of knowledge, theory and the ability to contribute).

There's this rather nice reference in a High-brow vs Low-brow chart in a 1949 issue of Life magazine.

That's the one. I typed in "go advertisement camel" and it did not find it. I guess I should have used "baduk"eyecatcher wrote:you mean this one? (found it with google in 20 secs "go baduk add camel")

I don't know for sure what you're trying to convey, but it could easily be construed as an unfortunate stereotype.huhu wrote:A woman, playing baduk?

He may know how to hold his stones but no go player would use the bowl lid to hold his cigarettes.Abyssinica wrote:The man in the Camel ad, on the other hand...DrStraw wrote:Just like someone who has only ever played online.Abyssinica wrote:Look at the way they hold their stones.

Look on the other side of the table, there’s his bowl lid. Must be some other thing his cigarettes are in/on.DrStraw wrote:[..]

Oh! You're right. All I saw was something which looked like a bowl by his left hand, which is where I always put my bowl (I'm left-handed) and assumed that is what it was.Bonobo wrote:Look on the other side of the table, there’s his bowl lid.
