Commentating Multiple Games

Post by Elom »

This may be a silly question, but it has none the less been an object of curiousity for quite a few weeks. Is it a viable strategy to have, during televised tournaments where multiple games are being played simultaneously (e. g. Sports Accord World Mind Games), one set of commentators review two or three games at once, (switching between screens). From what I know, I recently concluded that this kind of commentary must have been done before.

The original thought was that it may be an incentive to increase time limits for professional games, (meaning that "Spectator" Baduk may not be a complete enemy to "true" Baduk) while at the same time giving viewers two or three times more value (also, some people may want to have seen a different game commentated to the one chosen), making this a double-purpose move. It may be a slightly thin shape with a few weaknesses, however (for example, things like extra cameras and such) but it does seem to be somewhat proper haengma.

"A fine Gotation is a diamond in the hand of a dan of wit and a pebble in the hand of a kyu" —Joseph Raux misquoted.

Sounds like a good idea to me. I don't know if it has even been done though. I tend to avoid watching such things simply because, as you say, it is too slow. It should not really need any extra resources expect multiple display boards.
Still officially AGA 5d but I play so irregularly these days that I am probably only 3d or 4d over the board (but hopefully still 5d in terms of knowledge, theory and the ability to contribute).
