I am playing black in this game. I have tried to attack three weak white groups, but I do not think I attack them efficiently. I resigned after I made a mistake in my third attack.

Some questions:

1. When white did not complete the joseki at W12, I want to attack his group. I picked K17 since it is also a natural extension from the 4-4 point. Should I play elsewhere?

2. At B19, I want to strength my stone at D5, but I am not sure what to do. I don't want to attach at C3 immediately because I want to get some influence to attack white left middle group later. So I picked F4 first, and then settle latter by playing at C3. Would that be a good choice. (Of course, this group ended up being killed......)

3. At B27, I have thought about kicking at P17 instead, but I am kind of worried about my group at the top center. So I strength that group first. Unfortunately, that gives white a easy time to enter 3-3. Am I too paranoid here?

4. At W36, white deviate from the joseki and this is the major first fight of this game. I am not sure if I handled it correctly. I tried to make some territory at the right side during the attack, but my B53 move is bad, and I dealt with the W54 invasion badly. Perhaps I should play B53 at R7 or even R8?

5. I incorrectly assumed that B71 is sente, which is, of course, not really.....

6. I tried to attack both white weak groups at B83. When I played B95, I am hoping to cut off the escaped path of white, but I made a mistake and allow white to live in sente. Not only that, at B105, there is also a cutting point that would potentially make my top group at risk.

7. At B107, I don't want to let white settle and so I chose the aggressive placement. And I resigned after another fight, which I made a mistake and my group was cut off.

I would really appreciate any review of this game. In my typical games, I would get one or two fights, but this time I got three, and I don't think I handled them well.

Thanks.

Online playing schedule: Every tenth February 29th from 20:00-20:01 (if time permits)
To kill the top right group you should play hane and then a placement at T18 when he blocks. The group is then dead.

Still officially AGA 5d but I play so irregularly these days that I am probably only 3d or 4d over the board (but hopefully still 5d in terms of knowledge, theory and the ability to contribute).

Hi GoStudent, this L&D alone is already worth this game.
There are still variations after the :black: T18 placement -- good to study.

Other ideas:
( editing...)
:b13: any pincer 3 spaces or less is OK.
For future reference, 3rd line stresses more territory,
and 4th like more attacking. You can also consider J16 or H16.

:w14: bad.

:b15: you are very happy to simply extend to K16 -- solid.
Then, if :w16: pushes at J16, then you hane J15,
and then double hane H14 -- thanks to your solid K16 extension.
Your :b15: hane gives W the option to cross cut and create other complications.

:b19: good. The left side is already "crowded", and low
-- with 4 stones on the 3rd line --
not much development there. Take the outside, good.

:w20: if this is any lower, it'd almost fall off the board. Of course F3.

:b21: maybe inconsistent with :b19: ? :w20: is so low, you are happy to keep pressing W low: G3 ?

:b27: a bit strange (what's your severe follow-up?)
If you simply block at K18, then can you spot the squeeze
if W tenuki ?

:w32: strange ? Hane and connect.

:b35: huge. Unless you force him to live. :)

:b39: ( over-generalization ) generally, you want to kill from the outside, if you can. You want to reduce his eye space from the outside, if you can.
Unless the placement is the only option, or, the placement is better. :)
Example: Kill corner.

:b46: Ouch. Chicken. Scared. Soft. L12 get ahead of W.
You generally pull back like this only if it's a last resort.

:w47: Ouch, ouch, ouch. Huge shared vital point.
When you physically feel pain from this move,
then you begin to understand this shape. :)

:b50: - :w51: Ouch, ouch, ouch! Terrible. Broken shape.
See toothpaste .
Now you see missing L12 was huge.

Thank you for all your comments! They are very helpful.

With respect to the life-and-death problem:

I have considered the following sequences. It seems that white has a way to escape in the second sequence.

I have also tried to find a sequence that will lead to a ko, without letting white escape, and I was unable to find it either.

One of the major nuisance is that B7 cannot be played at (a).

Did I miss a sequence of killing without letting white escape?

With respect to the "squeeze" comment. Are you referring to the following sequence? In the actual game, this sequence would be very good for me, because I can connect the top center group to the top left corner, and making the white group floating.

Not sure I got it right, but I think this would set up a ko...

Hi GoStudent, you missed at least the two :wc: stones,
plus more B stones to the left. This affects many things.

Yes, to the squeeze.

gostudent, :b5: in your "escape" variation is not correct, should be directly at :b7: (there will be no escaping)

You don't quite have the knack of attacking.

:b17: Play one to the left, because White is going to need H16.

:b19: This is not actually sente (White can play tenuki). You do need sente to come out around E14. So :b25: is no good.

:b35: is good and now the corner should be ko. For :b39: you need to play the hane, as in all the books.

:b49: is a bit clumsy.

:b55: No, first you need to stop White connecting.

:b71: should be around K9, inducing White at K11 and affecting the top left white group.

:b83: H16 looks right.

:b95: Try one to the left.

After Black 135 the decent attack goes wrong, so you need to play on the other side.
