Hello everyone,
I've just begun studying in Xi'an, and so far couldn't find any reference nowhere (google, sensei's) as to where I could play here.
Has anybody here ever visited Xi'an and found people playing Weiqi? Does anybody around here live there by any chance?
Thanks!
Weiqi in Xi'an?

Re: Weiqi in Xi'an?
Hi Schizoid:
I am very sure there are lots of go players in Xi'an. Most people prefer playing online. So I think it is not easy to find a place to play face to face.
And also most chinese are not good at English. so if you cannot speak Chinese, it is very hard to communicate.
how long will you be studying in Xi'an? and roughly address? I will try to find out if there are any people living closeby who can speak English.
hope you have fun in China
Stephen

Re: Weiqi in Xi'an?
it looks like you just missed the Shanxi province(Xian is capital)Spring weiqi Rank competition between 26 Feb and 1st March.
but there are several matches in Xian every year.
and there will be Xian spring weiqi rank competition on 1st - 3rd May and Autum rank comp. on 1st-3rd Oct.
good luck.

Re: Weiqi in Xi'an?
Imo, finding English speakers is not that important.
Once upon a time I got into a club in Beijing (forgot the name, the big one), and all I needed to speak in Chinese was my rank.
If you end up finding nice places, please add it to Sensei's library, to the places in China page. I will for sure visit Xian one day

Re: Weiqi in Xi'an?
Hey!
Thanks for replying anyway
As it happens, I will be coming back to Xi'an soon for a short while, so it's relevant again.
My Chinese is good, so no need to be limited to foreigners. I will probably be somewhere between the south gate and TV tower, but hey I can take a bus or two if needed
On the internet I could not find any places where people actually sit and play, but if they have these tournaments I'm sure there's gotta be *somewhere*. I did run into some people from some Weiqi school located in various areas in the city (there's one in Xiaozhai), but it seemed to be aimed to children mostly. Still it's quite possible the teachers there know where the stronger players go, so I'll try that when I get there.
It was also rumored that there's a place in Xiaozhai where old people come to play and drink tea, but I couldn't locate it and it seemed to have closed already.
