I was talking to a chap on KGS recently that was adamant that Ron Polak had died about 2 months before Wim Maljaars died (Wim had told him)
Has anyone seen the man around?

I sincerely hope that is not true. I have never met him but have enjoyed many games against him online. It seems to me that if it were true then someone would have updated SL by now.

Still officially AGA 5d but I play so irregularly these days that I am probably only 3d or 4d over the board (but hopefully still 5d in terms of knowledge, theory and the ability to contribute).

Who was... Wim suffered from manic depression, he died in a "mental institution" leading to a review of procedures there after some media pressure

I wonder who has spread the news of Ron Polak's death.
Possibly it had been some confusion in the kgs-chatroom involving a guy from Antwerpen called amigo on kgs.
But i can tell you, i ain't dead yet!
Wim Maljaars lived in Amsterdam.
I heard from a reliable source, he choked on a peanutbutter sandwich.

I just have to say that for someone (such as myself) who is not familiar with the persons involved in this thread, the dialogue here is quite strange indeed.
