2-day game done in 1 day ?

Post by EdLee »

Watching the 40th Meijin. Iyama v. Takao. Almost the end of day 1 in Japan; about to seal the last move.

Curious: does anyone know of any precedence in (Japanese) pro tourneys where a 2-day game was finished on day 1 by resign ?

(Not counting the nuclear game, whatever happened to it. :)
Should be quite rare, if any... maybe some huge blunder in the Avalanche, etc. )

I am not certain but this might be one example:

[2000-05-24] 55th Japanese Honinbo, title match #1 Cho Sonjin vs O Meien

O made a blunder by misreading a ladder.

Thanks. Another audience of the Meijin also mentioned the same game: probably from a search by total move numbers. :)

The ladder one is quite a famous game, I've seen it on someone's fridge magnet. I think people like it when pros screw up, it makes them seem more human! (Plus it's a very cute ladder).
