Elo gives Zhang Tao 50.6% over Ida, so they are essentially even. Zhang Tao did beat Ida in the last round, it's the only time they've played. Zhang hasn't played too many games against Japanese players, he beat Akiyama Jiro in the Bailing Cup last year. He lost against Iyama Yuta in the LG Cup in 2013. I guess in the end it comes down to how much you trust the algorithm and the database.Elom wrote:And he's ranked higher than Ida 9p.over Zhang Tao, a relatively unknown Chinese pro...

Re: 32nd Samsung cup main tournament
I am sitting in a church to watch the live games of Sumsang Cup, any better place. Seven games completed so far, the biggest surprise being Zhang Tao's victory against Park Younghoon. Also Jiang Weijie's loss to Kim Dongho.

Re: 32nd Samsung cup main tournament
The final outcome of this round - Korea and China 4-4
Next round:
Tang Weixing (#19) vs Park Jungwhan (#1)
Zhang Tao (#97) vs Lee Sedol (#3)
Shi Yue (#4) Vs Kim Dongho (#172)
Ke Jie (#2) vs Byun Sangil (#48)
It is good that the top four players in the world do not need to face each other until a later time. Tang Weixing - Park Jungwhan game should be the most interesting to watch. Park has a 4-2 lead. But Tang conveniently won his two games in the best-of-3 match in Samsung Cup last year.

Re: 32nd Samsung cup main tournament
I think it's interesting that in both this tournamnent and the MLily Cup, Ke Jie and Lee Sedol made it to the semifinals, but Park Jungwhan didn't. It would be really interesting if we had Ke Jie vs Lee Sedol in the finals for both tournaments, could make a very interesting "old guard vs young talent" rivalry.

Re: 32nd Samsung cup main tournament
Probably the strongest player of our time, that Ke Jie. A point which drew my attention is that he uses much less thinking time than his opponents -today he didn't use about 40 minutes of his main time while Lee Sedol spent all his 2hour main time and all of 5x60seconds byo-yomi and Sedol is actually known to be a fast player who won many times in fast tournements like KBS and Asian TV Cup-. Reminds me the dominance of Go Seigen at his peak.
