KGS on Mac with El Capitan?

Post by wineandgolover »

Before I updated to the newest OS X, I thought I'd ask if anybody had any problems with KGS after updating?

All cool?

Thanks.

For any future interested party,

I upgraded the OS without incident and had no problems with KGS.

Thanks, I am about to update and was worried. :)

(I may still end up needing help, since I am changing computers entirely and going all the way from Snow Leopard to El Capitan!)

It says it can't let the app run because it has an invalid or not yet valid certificate. I followed the directions online to find the Java control panel, and it wasn't where it said it was.

It's 1:30 am now, going to bed.

The usual problems with Mac OS X major release upgrades is Apple deciding to disable Java as part of the upgrade process to protect its users. It does this wether or not you have any existing Java applications are in use. It can be a bit of a pain/chore to enable again, especially the webstart. Then of course there's the kgs certificate issues which if not resolved now will mean overriding security settings to connect. Also, even opening the java file in the first place if it's downloaded from the internet is not straightforward. You have to find the file in Finder and right click and choose open and ignore the security warning to be able to even execute it. Something tells me Apple doesn't like users running java apps downloaded from the internet that connect to sites with invalid SSL certificates :)

Deleted a different (obsolete) System Preferences tab and either the Java icon appeared or I suddenly lost a blind spot and found it. :) Exception sites added, downloaded client working! (Web client still claims I do not have a Java plug-in, in spite of my enabling Java Web Start on Firefox security, but that's okay.)

Thanks for the support!

Now to sort out all the 'migration assistant is an idiot' problems. :D

Okay, this is kind of funny...it seems I am not actually on El Capitan. My new computer that was supposed to come with it installed is actually from late 2014 and is running Yosemite. (Still a big jump up from Snow Leopard.)

It could always be updated, but I am happy my USB hub works and Microsoft Word is running, both of which supposedly have issues under the new Os, so no plans to make the change yet.
