Women love superior fire power...

Post by Joelnelsonb »

Playing someone who's clearly stronger than you can be very exciting but it does get tough to keep the wheels from falling off as you move through the later phases of the game.

Hhm! Given the subject line I am most surprised at this admission. I figured the Joel Nelson would be male.
Still officially AGA 5d but I play so irregularly these days that I am probably only 3d or 4d over the board (but hopefully still 5d in terms of knowledge, theory and the ability to contribute).

It's no big deal and none of my business, but may I suggest submitting your game reviews requests in the "Game Analysis" subforum?

I thought of that but it looked like I he would win out anyways and I would just waste a great ko threat...

Try J4 instead of B1.

Edit: Oops, thought schawipp said 87. Still the same move at 85 (rather than D1, though D1 is a nice idea and would be tesuji if not for shortage of liberties that made J4 work much better).

Interesting, my assessment of the position after the kill is completely different. Do you have a rough score estimation for the position after the kill?

Has he seen the kill?

No, what I meant was: I was well aware that there was the potential to kill the whole corner, however, it looked like he would live with ko anyways and I would've burnt a very valuable threat (given that with one extra move in the position, I would kill for sure)

There was no ko.

edit afterwards... I now see Bill's post and thought he meant for the corner to somehow still live. There is nothing big enough there as Bill shows.

I have edited the SGF to indicate what we are talking about. :) Go to move 85.

Edited for correctness. :)

Haha, that would've been sick to have pulled that off (for me, anyways). I guess I put too much of my focus into living in the corner.
