Re: Lee Sedol vs Alpha go
There is another thread discussing this but in that one it was not made clear that the winner won $1M. I assumed it was Google paying Lee $1M for the privilege of challenging him.
So who is putting up the money?

Still officially AGA 5d but I play so irregularly these days that I am probably only 3d or 4d over the board (but hopefully still 5d in terms of knowledge, theory and the ability to contribute).

I expect it's Google: if Lee wins he gets the money, if AlphaGo wins they give it to some charity. I also saw Deepmind will support the British Go Association (not a legal clarity).

Place your bets!
Hajin Lee thinks it's 50/50. The fact that it's difficult to call is astonishing.

Yes, they're giving us (the BGA) a relatively small donation (by $1m standard) to support the London Open 2016 in return for our involvement in providing a referee for the match etc.
My understanding is that the $1m is just the prize money and if he doesn't win then they'll do something else (probably related to Go or charity) with it. I assume he's getting some money to participate in the event.

And some quotes by Lee Sedol about the match (with my rough translation):
Lee Sedol wrote:“알파고에 대한 궁금증 때문에 이번 대결을 수락했는데, 결정하는 데 5분 정도밖에 걸리지 않았다”
(“I accepted this match out of curiosity about AlphaGo; it didn’t even take 5 minutes to make the decision.”)
“지난해 10월의 알파고 기보는 나와 그다지 승부를 논할 수준은 아니었다”
(“The AlphaGo game records from last October weren’t even at a level to discuss the possibility of winning against me.”)
“알파고가 계속 업데이트돼 기력이 향상되겠지만 시간적 한계가 있기 때문에 이번에는 내가 이길 것으로 본다”
(“As AlphaGo continues to get updated, it’s strength will certainly increase; but because of the time constraints, I’m looking forward to winning this time. ”)
"시간이 흘렀고 알파고의 실력이 늘었겠지만 3-2 이런 스코어가 아니라 내가 한판이라도 지느냐의 승부일 것이다"
("As time goes by, AlphaGo's strength will increase, but (this match) won't be a 3-2 score; it's more like, will I even lose a single game?")
Lee Sedol isn't lacking in confidence, to say the least
be immersed

Re: Lee Sedol vs Alpha go
I've always been a fan of Gu Li, due to his playing style. But after the Lee Sedol - Gu Li jubango and especially after reading his books, co-authored by his sister, I became a big fan of Lee Sedol. He has all the features of a legend. And this encounter with Alpha Go will only add to the myth. You have to love the guy's attitude.

Re: Lee Sedol vs Alpha go
Just to be clear about the $1m prize, which is provided by Google:
There is no statement about the proportions allocated to each, or the specific organisations involved, apart from Unicef.
If AlphaGo wins, the prize money will be donated to UNICEF, STEM and Go charities.
