Hi everyone,

I visited my weekly go club tonight, and wanted some feedback on the game I played. Last time I was there, I beat a 7k player, but I couldn't remember the game. This time, my opponent and I were able to replay the game once we had finished. My opponent, a 6 kyu, had resigned, but I think this was a misread by him.

I'm not sure how to add comments to the .sgf file. Maybe someone can help me? Here are my thoughts on the game:

(I am black)

:b15: Here is me not knowing how to respond when my opponent deviates from joseki. Should this be E3?
:w16: I thought this was fairly passive. H3 instead, maybe?
:w24: Gote
:b25: Passive.
:b27: I don't think this is good, but I don't know how to attack white. Help?
:w32: We both agreed, this was far too passive
:w48: Maybe J16 instead?
:w1: :w18: White resigns here, but I'm not sure if this was too early. Thoughts?

I think in general, my opening is very weak. :w16: , :w24: , :w32: were all gifts, but without that I was at a loss for how to attack white's framework.

I appreciate any feedback you can offer me! I can feel myself getting better at this game, and I love it. Now, humble me!

-Christopher

I'm taking a break from a problem I'm solving at work, so I'll just give my opinion on the questions you asked (comment is based on the question you wrote for the given move).

:b15: - White can block from that side, too. Standard answer is black B2 or C2. Otherwise, white can take your stone with C2. The corner territory is pretty big.

:w16: - I agree it's passive. C2 is a move locally for points. Globally, the bottom is big, and so is approaching Q15. White could also consider doing some sort of moyo - maybe start with P10, and try to make a shape in the center to go along with K16 stone. Not perfect, though, since D10 is low.

:w24: - Locally, I like hane at J6 better than M4. If white keeps pushing, you get more on the bottom.

:b25: - Yes. Locally, hane at J6 is my preference. You can also consider a move to help the top right, or perhaps a move to reduce white's growing potential on the left.

:w32: - Maybe passive, but I don't think it's terrible. White can take the stance of trying to kill anything that comes in. If whtie gets the entire left side, that's pretty big. OTOH, it's a bit difficult, since area around K14 is kind of open.

:w48: - Maybe - I think the problem is before this.

:w118: - I dunno. It depends on him.

Hi Christopher,

:b15: Still joseki here. As Kirby said, you can B2 or C2.
If you play the tiger's mouth B2, W ataris B3.
You connect. W tenuki. Standard sequence.

:b23: Did you consider H6 ?

:b27: 3-3 is a possibility, but it'll make W very thick.

:w32: Not passive; this is massive.

:w34: Maybe L14.

:b59: :-? ? You probably want to get rid of this bad habit/funny feeling.
o18.

:b61: - :w62: If :b59: @ :b61: directly, how can W get this good local shape ?

:b73: Now that you're super strong, hane o10.

:b75: You help him. R12. Don't touch him.

:b77: R12.
