Recommendations for screen recording software for go lecture

Post by Uberdude »

Do people have any recommendations for screen recording software suitable for recording me giving an audio lecture on KGS? I'd want to capture the KGS window (could be my whole screen) plus the audio of me speaking into my microphone (no video of my talking head). I will be using Windows XP or 7. Does anyone know what other go video creators like Haylee or the AGA use (but I wouldn't need the complex split screen like the AGA videos with Myungwan Kim/Andrew Jackson). Free/cheap would be best (but a trial version that doesn't support a 2 hour continuous recording is no good, and no annoying watermark please!). I want to upload to youtube afterwards.

I use Camtasia for recording videos for my job. It works great. Glancing at the website, I think it has a 30 day free trial with no limitations.

(I'm sure there is adequate free software out there; I'm just not familiar with the other offerings in the field.)

most of the popular streamers use OBS and/or Xstream

I know this is what AGA (Andrew) uses (both).

I find it awkward and cumbersome to setup and use, but once its setup, then it mostly runs itself.

I know this doesn't help Uberdude, but maybe it will help a future Mac OS X user with the same question. I used the built-in Quicktime app for this. No complaints, at all.

Good luck, Uberdude!
