The Long Path

Post by jlengyel »

I suppose I should start with the reason behind my starting this study journal. After a particularly bad day on tilt, I realized that I was getting far too involved in each and every game and result to make any real progress, or, more importantly, even enjoy Go. So I made brand new online accounts, and decided to start this journal as a way to remind myself of the larger context in which each game takes place. With any luck, the reminder that each game, each day, is only one step on the long road to who-knows-where will help me keep on track. And who knows, there might even be actual progress to report!

I'll primarily be playing on two servers:
KGS as jlengyel
Tygem as newleaf

Today, I played 4 games on KGS, losing 3 of them. However, one of them especially gave me good incentive to get more comfortable with escaping toward the center rather than living small on the side / in the corner. To that end, time to investigate joseki starting with a low pincer on a high one-space approach on a 3-4 stone, and do some tsumego (as always)!

Make that 4 losses ;-) Pretty much all of my games today were decided when I thought I could get *one more move* out of a position, leaving a weak group to fend for itself, only to be proven wrong. Life and death problems indeed.
