Could http://promotego.org/ be a replacement? At least it’s not down like igolocal.net, I was able to enter the data for our local Go meeting.

PromoteGo and IgoLocal were different. Too bad they both folded.

From my point of view, IgoLocal's main feature was showing locations of clubs and players on maps, while the main feature of PromoteGo was to help players schedule games in places where those games could be seen by others.

I liked both ideas. It would be nice if the national and international go organizations would revive and support both of these, and possibly merge them.

I know Chuck. He produced a followup to igolocal and also dropped support for it. I believe it was either made open source or was offered to the AGA.

The two issues with operating such a site is the time investment to monitor and fix any problems and then actually getting people to sign up. Both can be very difficult. Maybe these organizations don't have the time to devote to such endeavors.

I was recently looking for this site! It was a really great idea... It's unfortunate that sometimes these things don't/can't always work out. They are incredibly valuable to the Go community but we aren't as big and prominent as we would like to be (in my opinion anyways).

Is it possible that he can get it back up and someone else can volunteer to take over operations?

I'm not sure he's got the time or energy to launch it again. I'm pretty sure he's released the source code, I'm just not sure where.

Unfortunate that both IgoLocal and PromoteGo are inactive at this time. With the recent mainstream news reports about the Lee Sedol vs AlphaGo match, this would be a good time to utilize them.

There’s this new project started in r/baduk: https://www.reddit.com/r/baduk/comments ... map_going/

And there still is the World Go Clubs Map which sadly was vandalized some time ago, but there’s still a lot of info there. I’ve acquainted both originators with each other and hope there can be some synergy … I think it would be great to have two or more such places mirroring each other.

The idea behind PromoteGo was that go players near each other would arrange to meet and play in places where they would be noticed. These might be parks, shopping center food courts, college commons, work place cafeterias. Unlike a typical club games, the players might welcome interruptions from people asking about the game. (It might also help to have an odd number of go players show up, so some could play while one would be free to discuss the game with curious passers by.)
