Game Review Request - Actorios - 3k vs. 3k game on KGS

Post by Actorios »

Hello,
I'm back to the game (and to the forum) after a long hiatus. I would be glad to receive some help in reviewing my latest game played on KGS. It was a tight one with a few ko played and some tense life and death situation. I was playing White.

I'm especially interested about the following key moments:
1/ Direction of play in the opening
2/ The invasion at move 60 which just feel like a jealous move and could have been punished
3/ The importance of saving the center group (which costed me moves and potentially a lot of point) and the cut at K11
4/ The ko at move 156 which was a key moment in the game
5/ Any order of moves which should have been played better in the endgame

Actually, any other comments you see fit are most welcome.

Many thanks in advance for your support,

Charles Matthews

The opening on the right was better for you. I would have played :w20: at Q3, since Black is already rather overconcentrated here.

Omit :w24: as helping Black.

:w44: seems questionable to me, since driving the left side and lower side black groups together is not the right plan. You rely on :w50:, but if Black plays the other atari at G7, and connects at E8, you have plenty of bad shape, and the gap at F5 may not be enough compensation. So, :w44: at F6 might be better perception.

Since :w82: loses sente, the lower black group becomes safe and you have to try to win in the endgame. In fact you have a large lead.

Thank you very much. I'm honored to get a review from Charles Matthews - your book is one of the first I did read when I decided to get into go (with Janice Kim's).

Hah - it seems that people either want my introductory book, or Janice's: at least that was true some time ago. I'm glad you survived the experience.
