Last year, travel agency Ibero sponsored a tournament in which insei and young professionals (U18) compete together. All the professionals have a 段 rank next to their name; all the insei have the word, "insei" (院生) next to their names.

As implied from HnG, there does seem to exist a distinction between pros and insei in level, but what I do wonder about is whether this concept existed in Korea or China beforehand (and possibly used in Hikaru no Go)?
