Ohhh :( :) But tap->load data->"pass to app" sounds pretty natural?
I'd use your app for watching a game if I could a) zoom and b) if there were different boards and stones. I prefer plain black/white stones for instance. Maybe one day you add some variation there?

Gridmaster has no visual slider. You can tap->hold->drag (up/down or left/right) the move buttons!
Also... In the options, you can define the buttons height.

Thank you for the tips. It works much better after enlarging the buttons from Settings. I also find it helpful to remove the 'New' button to free up more space for wider navigation buttons. Tap, hold a button and then drag to quickly navigate works well.

My concern now is that changing button size or a unusual gesture for a certain function is not what ordinary user would expect. And I gather very few bother to read document. First impression really matters in App design.

BTW, Go4Go App's board actually can be zoomed in. It is not perfect implemented but it works reasonably well. In GridMaster, you can not 'pan' the board when zoomed-in, which again is not the 'normal' behaviour (I might have missing something hidden again).

Thanks anyway for the suggestions. There are many things that can be learned from other Apps.

I have just put together a plain theme to show stones and board in black and white. Screenshot here:

I might include another lighter colored board before the next release.

Go4Go Android Client v1.0.7

I just uploaded the new version to the Google Play Store. This version contains the following changes:

- Enhancement: added filters to the Go Ratings data so that top players by country and top female players can be displayed
- Enhancement: in Settings, introduced 'board theme' options. There are now 3 themes: the original one with darker board, a new one with lighter wood texture (Solomon asked for this a while ago), and a plain black & white theme. A screenshot of the lighter board is attached.
- Other minor improvements.
- Invisible to users, but I also laid the foundation for user input. That means next few releases we are likely to have new functions like trial play and making adjustment to scoring.

Great, thanks. I know I am annoying, but maybe you consider splitting stones from the board settings? I'd like to see plain stones on go board color background. Coloring as we know it from senseis db.

Perhaps a wish that doesn't apply to many users, but could we get more options to customize the graphics?

Settings that would be much appreciated on my part:

1. Line strength
2. Other stone textures, maybe customizable
3. Ability to set background for plain theme (as I would like a light gray there)

Brilliant, brilliant app though already as is. Happily paid for it and enjoying the service immensely!

I am pleased to announce the release of 1.0.8 version of Go4Go Android Client.

This is mainly for my Chinese speaking customers - you now have a complete Chinese version. By that I mean not only the user interface, but all the contents (player & tournament names, game results etc) are translated to simplified Chinese. Some screenshots follow:

If you have a Chinese device you should get this automatically. Otherwise set your system Language setting to Chinese - 中文(简体)

Of course I laid the foundation properly to translate this App into any language. If anyone can help me translate the user interface please talk to me.

There's also an enhancement for my western supporters (as requested by Solomon on this forum) - now you can choose from Settings that when opening a game show the first or last position.

I also redo the packaging so the download is now even smaller.

Now that you've released a few versions, can we talk about maybe having a working landscape mode for us tablet folks?

Go4Go Android Client v1.0.9

Because of user demands, the following features are now supported:

* A landscape mode for tablet users as shown in the screen capture below. I've only slightly optimized the App for tablets, including using larger fonts in a few places and displaying complete game description as title because there's plenty of room.
* Now it is possible to tap the left half of the Go board to navigate backward (and right half forward). Switch this on from Settings. By default, tapping anywhere on the board moves forward - this enables phone users to play using one hand.

Go4Go Android Client v1.1.0

Added another game filter for player search. Players with many games can have the search refined by year, e.g. show Lee Sedol's games in 2010. This latest filter, together with those provided earlier, effectively make all games in the Go4Go database accessible fairly easily.

Fantastic! The more Player Search filters the better.
