For (4), strategic reading, I have never seen any fitting book.
For (5), techniques and tesujis related to tactical reading, there are very many example-driven and a few other books.
For (1), understanding, Krama mentions the topic of fundamentals, which is important and relevant indeed. However, Lessons in the Fundamentals is hardly useful for actually learning the fundamentals. Much more suitable for the purpose are First Fundamentals, Fighting Fundamentals, Joseki 1 - Fundamentals, Fundamental Principles of Go etc.
DrStraw suggests a complete knowledge of standard positions and tesujis. Although this is a too one-sided view, a profound knowledge of thus terminal positions reduces the depth of tactical reading. Therefore, life and death or other tactical problem books help.
