1971 Honinbo tournament
I am just reading through 1971 Honinbo tournament. And I have to say - this is the best book I have ever seen untill now. I am just replaying through Sakata - Ishida game, and I think I am improving so much by studying these games. I like the style of writing, and, all of these games are great for studying. I spend at least 2 hours on each game(probably 2,5 - 3). I try to myself read out all the variations, so if you do not have nough patience this is maybe not for you, but even with less time spent you are likely to get lot out of comments alone. I am currently 2d on wbaduk and I can ounderstand almost everything written there, but the text isnt easy, say too hard for someone weaker than 5. kyu EGF. Anyway, what are your toughts about this book?

Well, that's one more on my list of "must read soon" Go books. Sigh... I'll never get through them all!

It's also one of my favorites and the first game collection I recommend to anyone.

Re: 1971 Honinbo tournament
It is the first go book I ever seriously studied, soon after it was first published. I think I probably improved several stones by studying it.
Still officially AGA 5d but I play so irregularly these days that I am probably only 3d or 4d over the board (but hopefully still 5d in terms of knowledge, theory and the ability to contribute).

Not sure. Approaching shodan I guess.

Re: 1971 Honinbo tournament
The 1971 Honinbo Tournament is a wonderful book, the commentary is entertaining and extremely educating.
I got it as prize book in the European Go Congress 1985 when I was promoted to a shodan as well. I think I've read it through (with a go board) at least four times.
Cheers,
Vesa
