Anyone having trouble accessing OGS?

Post by Joelnelsonb »

I haven't been able to get onto OGS in about a week now. It just loads forever without ever bringing up the server. I've had no other internet problems and I've cleared my cache/settings multiple times as well as tried different browsers. I wonder if they're just updating the site and I'm out of the loop. KGS for now though.

I have always had trouble from my iphone browser. Perhaps if you try a different browser it might work? Chrome always seems to work for me.

Posted on their forums but no fixes incoming

Yesterday there was an incident that lasted for about half an hour or so

Quoting from the ‪OGS‬ forum (https://forums.online-go.com/t/please-e ... -mess/8614)
This morning our glorious leaders were experimenting with our new infrastructure's load leveling features in an attempt to bring you a better OGS experience. In a rare miss, all of our IPs were accidentally routed to a handful of internal IPs. A previously (legitimately) banned user attempted to log in and it made all of our IPs look like we had been banned.

The issue has been resolved. If you are still having issues, close out the tab entirely and navigate to https://online-go.com

We apologize for any inconvenience.
For everybody else who’s been having problems for a longer time since the server switch — it has been working fine for me and many others, therefore I’d recommend communicating your problem (with error messages etc.) on the OGS forum so that the devs can find out what’s going on.

I'm having trouble accessing the forums too, hence coming here.

Oh, I understand.

I’m asking over there what can be done.

I have passed this on to matburt and anoek. Yours are the only reports we have heard so far of this kind. Our devs are at US Go Congress at the moment, so it might be a day or two until I can get a hold of them.

from matburt:

"So there are two possibilities.... either they are in a country that is banned OR their router is still inexplicably caching our old address so get them to see what address they think OGS is or figure what country they are in."

I know KGS once banned all of Microsoft because of one naughty user there, but whole countries?!

I'm in the USA and have not ever been anywhere else. As for the cache, I'm not really the computer-guy so I'll have to look up how to go a little deeper with it. Any suggestions from here would be helpful.

If you want to see what address your computer is using, try opening a command prompt (type cmd from the start menu or program launch menu and hit enter) and then typing nslookup online-go.com. You can also try typing the command tracert online-go.com; that might give some information about where your connection is hitting a snag. The answers might not make sense if you're not a computer guy, but if you copy and paste the results here it might provide some useful information for the OGS devs.

To be clear, any country wide ban would not originate from OGS. As far as I know, they are part of international sanctions and our providers have to comply.

Have you tried turning your router off and on again? (Actually unplug it for a minute). That fixes some issues sometimes.
