GoGameGuru

Post by Wizerdo »

Hi there,

Though I am fairly new to this forum, i did notice that http://www.gogameguru.com Is currently offline.

Is this in connection with the decrease in posts on their site, not updating the baduktv guide / English?

Waiting to read your responses.

Has anyone heard any news about gogameguru after around mid-June 2016?
Has anyone been able to get in touch with them recently?

I've searched around the internet and I can't find any new things posted after June 14th from gogameguru via twitter, facebook, google+, etc.

You would expect that if they were still serious about their business that they would post something about what is happening with their website on their social media outlets as soon as possible.

Note the cryptic reply by gogameguru on this post: http://www.lifein19x19.com/forum/viewto ... 54#p205354

The forum member later on in August said that gogameguru hasn't communicated with him for two month regarding an order mixup.

Given the above, one would suspect that the company may have met with an unfortunate demise.

I ordered a couple books from them June 23rd, received the books a few days later, and have been receiving emails from them every couple weeks asking me to review my experience (which I've yet to get around to doing). The latest of these emails was sent on August 10th, Although, these emails may be sent by a third party, rather than GGG directly.

I'm not sure that answers your questions at all, but hopefully it helps.

I remember that I had a very bad feeling when I read this comment (assumedly by David Ormerod of Go Game Guru), remembering the unfortunate events around the spilling of that PDF document of their latest Lee Sedol book.

I was wondering what happened to the newsletters, sad to see that the site is offline.

Anyone around with a direct connection to David? Would be good to verify whether he's okay and to let him know that folks miss him.

The facebook page also has a number of unanswered and worried posts by fans.

I do have somewhat of a personal communication with David, without exaggerating things, but I won't abuse it to feed news that he himself doesn't want to provide (again, not that I know much).

I have always thought that the core mission of GGG, to spread the love for the game, was not the ideal perspective to make it viable, at least not in a world where everybody expects the best stuff to happen for free while wasting salaries on the worst things the world has to offer.

Let's hope this is just a glitch but I'm afraid it is permanent.

Well hopefully he did not decide to fake his own death. Would be said to see a good business die.

Uhm, I for one hope that he still is able to enjoy life ;-)

And BTW, via thread on r/baduk, according to http://whois.domaintools.com/gogameguru.com the ggg domain has been renewed:
Expires on 2017-08-11 - Updated on 2016-08-12
Odd, because when I do a whois in the command line I still get “Registrar Registration Expiration Date: 2016-08-11T15:43:05.00Z” but maybe the change hasn’t been propagated to where command line whois “asks”? I understand little of these things.

Starting a go business is shakier than opening a restaurant. I've seen many come and go, some of them very good, some not so much.

Hinoki Press (this one actually did change hands because of founder death, which makes me question the taste of the above comment, but I know it's in jest).

Really? I still can`t open it... seems to be still down.
(by the way, it would make me quite sad if they would not make it  )
I just started to watch all those translated "perception of mejin" videos on baduk tv english...

I guess it is really hard to make a business with GO in the west... but hopefully this will change.

The "Hebsacker Verlag" for example, here in Germany where i live, they seem to do great already for quite a long time.
