Re: Google event matches in South Korea this October

I was curious, so I just googled the match title, and came up with this article from October 9th:
http://sports.khan.co.kr/news/sk_index. ... _id=561601

The title indicates that the event is a commemoration of the AlphaGo - Lee Sedol matchup.

From the article:
"The relay pair mtch is a team competition between an 'AlphaGo' team and a 'Hand of God' team. Team members were composed of 6 players at or under the age of 30, 4 players at or over 31, 2 female players, and 2 yunguseng." (roughly)
And also:

"This tournament is a way of combining Relay Go and Pair Go. First, a match is split up into moves 1~120 to constitute the 'first half of the game' and moves 121 to the end of the game to constitute the 'second half of the game'. For each of the respective halves of the game, a different player has to play, and during the match, each team can exchange 1 player each, and can also take one 3-minute timeout."
The article later says that the two teams play 9 games, and the team to win 5 games wins.

It's not clear to me from the article what this has to do with AlphaGo, really, except for the team name. Maybe they thought that 'AlphaGo' and 'Hand of God' seemed like good team names. Maybe it's also related to commemoration of the AlphaGo/LeeSedol matchup, I guess.

Another page (http://media.daum.net/m/channel/view/sp ... 9033738260) says this:

"The Google-sponsored, Hanguk Kiwon-hosted 'AlphaGo-LeeSedol Match Commemoration Relay Pair Baduk Match' (picture) began last 3rd/4th from the BadukTV Studio." (roughly)
So maybe there was some agreement between Google and the Hanguk Kiwon to hold the event, since Google seems to be involved in sponsoring it.

Thanks everybody … the more I read, the more awkward all this looks to me, with a tinge of impoliteness towards the DeepMind team :-?

Am I misintepreting? Is there some culture clash? Am I being oversensitive? Perhaps I’m just just easy to confuse?

What's impolite about it? DeepMind donated money to several organizations and charities, including the Korean Baduk Association. The KBA is using that money to fund this and other fun events, commemorating the Lee Sedol vs AlphaGo match.

ETA: You can watch these events in full on their youtube, here is the first episode:
