This is a thread for following Iyama Yuta, his defence of his titles in Japan and any international games he plays. But please no discussion of his position in world rankings such as goratings.org (internet etiquette tends to give thread creators some say over contents/direction of threads they create, so admins please delete off-topic world ranking posts). To get back on-topic. Iyama faces Yu Zhengqi aka Yo Seiki 7p in the 2nd Oza game on the 7th. First game was rather interesting and is below:

Since this thread is titled "following Iyama Yuta", and since Iyama is ranked as world #6 by goratings.org, and since his ranking is "not a sensitive topic", I humbly offer my opinion that goratings.org ranks Iyama far too high.

Have you considered just posting links to your previous posts instead of writing new ones? It might be faster.

In the last game of the Meijin title, move 79 (R8) seems big but slow to my eyes.
I was expecting I5, instead of this R8 move.

Any opînion about this ?

Looks like your coordinates are different to normal western ones with no i and 1 at the bottom, I suppose you mean this a (which is L5 in our coordinate system, the bizarre b is L5 in the system in which 79 is r8)?

Assuming so: any answer to white's marked stone is a good exchange for him, so I think fighting spirit partly explains why tenuki. He did play L5 soon though, after the exchange of 79 for white c. I guess those can be thought of as big moves miai, black could make top side points like this (but also helps white make left middle points):

Also s12, whilst looking slow, does set up the r8 invasion, which has the potential to unsettle white. As we saw in the game white had to be mindful of this when black cut and ran out the right middle, for example defending with 108 and 116 (though these defences weren't of course pure defence but had future attacking aims too as we saw when Takao cut off the tail). It's a really hard position though, so whilst I can reasonably confidently say this move or that move has this good thing or that bad thing, combining them all and making a judgement of what is the best move is too hard for me.

If white jumped again, what would black do? Given Takao's move, I guess somewhere around there?

Iyama just won the second game of the Oza . Pretty quick win , the big moyo was impressive. Think white could do better in the reduction . Wish someone can translate some commentaries . ^^

Playing CS a lot it seems to have a preference for playing in a similar fashion as this game, and it's contagious I think heh - lots of influence - so I immediately wanted to do something like D13 & K16 but from my games I've also started to realise that shoulder hitting and scattering a few stones in a nice circle doesn't make for a gigantic middle territory heh.

So for this game - doesn't black want / need one more move on the right side? To prevent white from crawling in, or mitigating the effect of him doing so? If you block at S5 I imagine white will just plop a stone at Q10 or something and try to erase the potential, so maybe play Q10 yourself and allow white to crawl in from the lower right if he really wants to?

I've not seen the game record so I don't actually know black's move here. Is the game available anywhere (Go4go?)?

EDIT: Is Iyama Yuta known for a particular style of play by the way?

Live now Iyama is playing Ichiriki Ryo in the 2nd Tengen game (Iyama won first). Iyama played the trendy close approach to the Kobayashi.

Edit: Ichiriki won after some ballsy fighting and trades. An attacking masterclass from Ichiriki after Iyama greedily tenukied to take a big point in the top side leaving two weak groups to fend for themselves. As they were both out to the centre I thought he would manage to settle them as he so often does. But some nice splitting and leaning attacks later Ichiriki won a ko to kill the larger one so even though Iyama had a ko to live (by killing) the other he resigned as Ichiriki had a lot of ko threats from his dead leaning attack stones. The pace of play did speed up considerably towards the end though so I can't help but wonder if Iyama would have found a way out with more time.
