12-14Kyu Player Looking for Online Games

Post by jeffb99 »

Hey all. Sorry if this is the wrong forum for this outreach.

I'm having trouble finding online players at my level (prob ~12-14Kyu) on KGS or OGS. And I really don't play very well with a ticking 10min clock on the screen... ...too much pressure which leads to LOTS of mistakes. Fast or "blitz" games certainly have their place. But right now, its just not fun for me or helpful as I try to learn and advance. If anyone at this level would like to hook up for some less-pressured games (perhaps 30-45 min main time), PM me. I'm sure we can arrange a good time to get online on a regular basis.

Thanks!!

If you're looking for players around your level that are willing to play slower games I recommend Pandanet (aka IGS).

Hi Jeff,

Yea, try both IGS and KGS.

What's your experience getting a game at around your rank on KGS with a slower time setting to your liking ?

Not great. Very few takers....or some offering 4 stone handicaps. I'd rather play against someone at my level (or slightly better).

Hey Jeff,

I've been playing exclusively on OGS and have had pretty good luck at the same rating as you. Do you primarily look for open games, or have you tried creating your own challenges? I always create my own challenges (30 min main time + 30x5 byoyomi) and haven't run into issue, although I often set a wider open range (like 16-11kyu)... still, I get a lot of 12-14 kyu players accepting.

If creating your own challenges doesn't work, perhaps it's a timezone issue?

I would love to play some games with you some time.. I've been ridiculously busy lately, but when holiday start next Friday I'll be keen to get games in at any time of day! 30-45 minute games w/ 5x30s byoyomi are my preference.

I don't recall my OGS handle, but I think it's the same as here, so if you add me as a friend over there we can talk later.

Cheers.

If you are interested in correspondence games please send me an invite. I am currently 13k OGS.

Do you try automatch in KGS?
Around 2k on KGs is easier to find "slow" games with automatch than in challenge list.
