At 8:39, can't White live in seki with Q19?

No, R18 makes miai of playing below or to the right.
Still officially AGA 5d but I play so irregularly these days that I am probably only 3d or 4d over the board (but hopefully still 5d in terms of knowledge, theory and the ability to contribute).

I thought this was seki, but I was seeing it wrong. The White stone at 1-2 isn't connected to the rest. :-?

This is not the problem here.

If the problem was not in the corner, but at the side, your suggestion would end in seki.

In the corner-shape, Black can give atari from the outside, so Black's three stones inside form a dead eye-shape.

At the side, White's group has two liberties left inside. Black can give atari only by creating a shape inside that consist of four stones in a row. Capturing these four stones results in a living shape for White.
