A question about an invasion

Post by Stefany93 »

Hello folks,

When I play, usually my opponent make that kind of invasion and I have no idea what to answer. I tried various variations and at the end, he kills me and take a lot of territory.

Please tell me what is the best answer on this invasion?

Thank you very much!

Best Regards
Stefany

Black has not enough room to make a base here. So has to run. I'd try a capping play here.
Just attack him and profit from making territory or influence while chasing him.

Topazg made a video on capping plays recently:

Interesting, I'd approach this differently. Assuming the game is even and the top is open, I'd probably jump out at P10 , aiming to chase Black while building up the top a little. Black doesn't have space for a base but is also hard to attack severely here, I'd just go for the sure and simple profit.

infomation you gave is too little.
for me to give good answer i need to see whole board.
what happened in one corner will affect what will happen in another corner.

I was going to lay out an example board but I find that if this is a situation from a real game, I'm baffled at how White has so many stones on one side. I'm finding it hard to construct a game like this where White isn't behind. And obviously how the rest of the board looks like and whether you are ahead or behind has a big influence in terms of choosing how to attack.

my first instinct is Q12 attack.
and i would think about a capping move you played.
cap wasnt too bad..but what you played after the cap is a problem.

I think the most important advice here is this:

Click Here To Show Diagram Code
[go]$$Bc
$$ ------------------
$$ . . . . . . . . . |
$$ . . . . . . . . . |
$$ . . . . . . O 2 . |
$$ . . . . O , . 1 . |
$$ . . . . . . . . . |
$$ . . . . . . . . . |
$$ . . . . O . X . . |
$$ . . . . . . . . . |
$$ . . . . . . . . . |
$$ . . . . . , O . . |[/go]
A good system naturally covers all corner cases without further effort.

my general advice... don't try to kill the invasion, but instead attack it, as if you are trying to kill it, and force it to live small, while you strengthen your own position.

Agree. This is much more fundamental than deciding where to play 44.

Also I advise against taking white when outranked by 9 ranks.

A bit OT, but Stefany, can you explain to me why you played :w42:?
We don't know who we are; we don't know where we are.
Each of us woke up one moment and here we were in the darkness.
We're nameless things with no memory; no knowledge of what went before,
No understanding of what is now, no knowledge of what will be.

I had a secret strategy that even Shikshin wouldn't understood it!

P.S - I have no idea about that move. Who knows what other silly moves I have made when I was 16k

Maybe it's a good attitude to ask oneself at every move what the move accomplishes and what your goal is.
