2018: 4th Women's, 3rd Seniors Korean Baduk Leagues
I failed to finish reporting the results for the 2nd Women's Korean Baduk League. This year, hope to simply report the results and game record links of both the WKBL and SKBL each saturday since I have not yet seen them in an english tournament sheet yet.
On Go proverbs:
"A fine Gotation is a diamond in the hand of a dan of wit and a pebble in the hand of a kyu" —Joseph Raux misquoted.

Re: 2018: 4th Women's, 3rd Seniors Korean Baduk Leagues
2018 Women's Korean Baduk League
In 2015, the WKBL consisted of seven teams.
In 2016 and in 2017, it consisted of eight teams.
In 2018, nine teams participate in a double round robin (totaling 18 rounds, 72 team matches and 216 individual games) with an ₩840,000,000 ($780024/£558458 24.02.2018) prize pool.
The player selection ceremony occurred on January 31, and the two hour opening ceremony occurred on February 20th.
After the leagues, the fifth and fourth placed teams play in a wildcard playoff match of two rounds with the fourth placed team needing to win one out of two rounds of matches, and the fifth placed team needing to win both rounds, the winner of which plays a qausi-playoff against the third placed team, the winner of which plays in a playoff against the second placed team, the winner of which plays in the championship match against the first placed team (a playoff ladder system somewhat similar to the Japanese Kisei).
Each team represents a city/town in Korea and a sponsor (the sponsor can be a company or the city itself).
Matches consist of a slow game (60m+5*40s byo-yomi) and two fast games played one after the other (10m+5*40s byo-yomi)
The board positions can be changed for each match
The winning team takes away ₩50,000,000

Re: 2018: 4th Women's, 3rd Seniors Korean Baduk Leagues
Several Chinese sources reported that this player (http://www.baduk.or.kr/info/player_view ... e=10000998) played for the Buan (Gomso Salt) team. Where do you get your player information? I am not so sure about the translation of her name either.

Re: 2018: 4th Women's, 3rd Seniors Korean Baduk Leagues
There was actually an error on the official result page in which the information for Kang Jisoo 1p was shown instead.macelee wrote:Several Chinese sources reported that this player (http://www.baduk.or.kr/info/player_view ... e=10000998) played for the Buan (Gomso Salt) team. I thought that I might then simply put in Heo Seohyun, the spelling on the website, however, as I had assumed she was a Korean player due to her board placement, and the fact that they had already made an error on the page, I wanted to double check and see if her name was in the http://www.go4go.net database via goratings as I thought that there should be a good chance she has either played in the WKBL before or that she played a high enough level match to have a game in the go4go database— as I assumed she was Korean and searched for the Korean transliteration of her name, I did not find her entry. I thought that it may be best to put in the player with the closest spelling as it may be a misspell considering there was already an error on the page, and wait for you to transcribe the games for her match so that I can check it and finally correct it for sure.
Is she a Chinese player who plays in Korea or is she a foreign candidate player?

She only quite recently became professional. She has not shown up in other tournament yet. She is definitely Korean.

Kim Miri gave Rui Naiwei a taste of her own medicine with an impressive kill. It all started with an attack/cut at this shape's vital point. White then ran all the way to the right side but only made 1 eye and failed to kill surrounding Black groups.
P.s It's Posco not Poscho: they are a big steel company (I visited their factory as part of the physics olympiad in Pohang some years ago).

Re: 2018: 4th Women's, 3rd Seniors Korean Baduk Leagues
Saying they are a big steelmaker is like saying Roger Federer is a good tennis playerP.s It's Posco not Poscho: they are a big steel company (I visited their factory as part of the physics olympiad in Pohang some years ago).
But if it's being nice to go sponsors time (which I approve of) I believe their official English name is POSCO as they see it as an acronym (Pohang Steel Company).
Interestingly there is also a Poscho steel company in Bombay.
The Korean lady is 17-year-old Heo Seo-hyeon but she also goes by Hu Suhyun and Heo Seohyun (and by analogy with other Heos, I expect there is, or will be, also a Ho version out there). Pro since last December. The Hanguk Kiweon seems to be feeding an awful lot of new 1-dans into the system, which seems odd given how hard it is for many of the established pros to maintain a decent living now. Is it all a desperate ploy to match the Chinese youth? With some events being reduced to 20 minutes + 3x20 seconds, I expect the next stage will be 10 seconds a move for pros straight out of Kindergarten. And so on, to vanishing point - literally.

Yep, it was a typo!Uberdude wrote:Kim Miri gave Rui Naiwei a taste of her own medicine with an impressive kill. It all started with an attack/cut at this shape's vital point. White then ran all the way to the right side but only made 1 eye and failed to kill surrounding Black groups.

Actually, when white played at K9 it looked like it made sense: But after black plays some strengthening moves, it looks like it was too aggressive and white ended up being captured instead!
