General discussions about gobans, etc., go here. If you're selling go equipment, it should go in the Trading Post.

RuiQiChina's "4th Generation Smart Go Board"

Post by Drew »

Saw an ad for this on the WeiqiTV site and thought some of you might find it interesting...

main page

Taobao purchase page

Cost: 2980 RMB (~ $ 435)

Alleged Features:
  • built-in LED lights to guide stone placement for instruction, playback, or opponent stones
  • 6 Dan level AI included
  • Can play against others online (eWeiqi, FoxGo, others)
  • Kifu library
  • Tsumego library
It's interesting that their main selling point is how this is better for the child's eyes than playing weiqi on a computer screen all day!

I like the form factor. The price is out of my range, but hopefully in another year or 2 we'll see something below $200 with better online support. If I could use this to play on WBaduk or Tygem without difficulty I'd be in heaven...

Hi!

I met them at the Chinese Go Congress in August in NanNing, and, if I understood properly:
  • Their product includes a weak kyu AI (my guess is that it's GnuGo)
  • And if you have a license, it can play Zen 7 as well (I guess that's the 6 dan AI mentioned)
  • No support for GTP at that time
There is a coming product from a competitor from ShangHai that seems more interesting (the led have two colors for black or white stones, and the magnet is enclosed in the stone, so the white stone is fully white, plus GTP support IIRC). Either way, I will get one of this products when it's mature enough :)

I agree with you that this is an exciting area of development! I'm delighted to hear that multiple companies are entering this area.

Thank you for linking back to your other post. I hadn't seen it.
