Avoiding certain sub-forums.

Post by GoCat »

Right now we have a "Mark Malkovich Read" link, and "Mark all forums read" link. What would be cool is to have a way each of us can select a set of one or more sub-forums (in our personal profile, or whatever), and then we get a link "Mark Selected Forums read".

Actually, I suppose it would be equivalent to selecting the forums we don't want, and then never having those posts appear in our "View new posts" list.

Don't know if any of that is possible.

Sure its possible.
Not sure how much effort it would take to implement, though... ;)

Variation on the theme: At the top of the page with posts in it, we currently have "Subscribe topic" and "Bookmark topic"... Can we add "Block Topic"? So the first time a thread appears, I can take a peek and if I know I don't want to follow it, I click "Block Topic",and I never see it again in my "View unread posts" lists. This gives a finer control than just blocking an entire sub-forum. (Like, if I want to follow one persons blog, but not another's; which isn't likely, but who knows...)

To be complete, I suppose the thread I block should still appear if I go to the sub-forum page, and I can then enter the thread from there, and then I can "Unblock topic".

I second that motion!

Any idea that allows me to block out the study journals is a good idea.

For further ramblings, see here: viewtopic.php?p=23779#p23779

It's hardly likely to be possible but I'd like to be able to block:

1. Any posting that begins with "So"
2. Any thread that contains a "me" or an indirect "me" (i.e. third person reference to oneself) in the title
3. Any thread that contains self justification for being banned on kgs
4. Any question that involves work to answer but where the asker does not explain why he needs the answer - "just curious" isn't enough, nor is "school project".
5. An old gripe: any whinger who hides behind an anonymity handle.

But would that leave any posts?

As a non native English speaker, I have to ask. What so wrong with so? Is it an unnecessary word? I could see that most sentences could do without it. Are there places where so is appropriate?

I don't think the forum should support any censoring based on the posters sexual identity.

I agree. But "Camp: exaggeratedly theatrical." Dictionaries are useful.
