The bulk of the posts are something like "today I did 15 tsumego" or "today I played a serious game and got crushed". Who cares? They don't contribute anything. I can understand from a personal perspective that one might want to keep a personal log. But why not make it personal, you know, in a word document or something? There might occationally be some good information for a spectator in there but it's being drowned in the mundane stuff. If one has truly found something of value and want to write about it, why not start a thread in one of the regular subforums?
To preempt the "if you don't like it, don't read it" argument, like most people I read the forum from the "View new posts" button and the signal to noise ratio is getting worse. With new members arriving at a steady pace and thinking it's a great idea to start a journal with more of the same "oh look, I did 15 tsumego" it will only go downhill.
I realize some people is going to feel hurt here. It was fun in the beginning to follow SoDesuNe's tsumego marathon but it gets old real fast when everybody just writes more of the same. Often there isn't even anything to discuss! Just the regular tsumego reporting. What kind of discussion board is that? Besides, it seems most journals start stating bold plans and just stops a few days later. Who needs that? What does it contribute?
Remove the study journals subforum!
No, surely you are not alone, people all have different views.
My journal might be the most boring one, as I just keep counting on how many tsumego/tesuji/pro games etc i do every day, plus a bit boring words about how I feel on the day, and most of them can be summerized in one word "dissapointed". But I enjoy reading my previous posts to get a trace of what i did recently, i enjoy people's comments, encourages and appreciate their help in answering my questions in the post, more than that i enjoy reading other people's journals to see what they do, how they improve. In a whole, i enjoy seeing myself being among so many go players who is doing hard to improve their go skills and on the same path as I am.
I realize you are going to feel hurt here, but i do advice you ' if you don't like it, don't read it'. This is not a very active forum, and click on "view active post' won't give you more than 2 pages per day. Besides if you believe people stops it a few days later then eventually the number of posts will decrease, and it won't bother you too much when checking the 'active post' soon.
