Re: A new international tournament: The 1st Tianfu Cup
What is the meaning of group A and B? Is it just 2 halves of a single elimination tournament? https://gotoeveryone.k2ss.info/wr/tianfu/1 makes me wonder if winner of group A will play winner of group B or not (if so why bother marking the 2 halves of the draw as such?).

Top 2 of each group will move on to the semi-final. Group final is only there to decide the pairing.

Re: A new international tournament: The 1st Tianfu Cup
Yeah, it didn't have much meaning. I originally thought that they would let A winner to play B runner-up once getting to the semifinal, it turns out the semifinal matches just continue as Chen Yaoye vs. Jiang Weijia, and Park vs. Shin.
Shin has won 17 straight games and looks poised to overtake Park as the new No. 1 at some point. Could happen after the next game.

Shame, I was kinda hoping for an all Korea final given how few of them started out!

An all-Korea final is still possible. I understand after the group final, it is going to be A1 vs. B2 and B1 vs. A1, before the best-of-3 final.Uberdude wrote:Shame, I was kinda hoping for an all Korea final given how few of them started out!

Thanks! Just realized that. This next round only determines the positions for the semifinal matches.macelee wrote:An all-Korea final is still possible. Jiang beat Chen,
Park beat Shin
so that means the semi-finals will be Park vs Chen and Jiang vs Shin?

Re: A new international tournament: The 1st Tianfu Cup
Shin Jinseo won the 2nd game by 2.5 so we get a decider tomorrow, can Shin fulfil his promise and win his first international title, or will wily Chen's experience prevail?
P.S. Merry Christmas!

Re: A new international tournament: The 1st Tianfu Cup
He has already won the 4th Globis Cup.can Shin fulfil his promise and win his first international title
You obviously mean "major international title" but there's a case to be made to say he is yet to win any major title, depending on how you regard the GS Caltex Cup in its post-modern manifestation, or the JTBC Cup - to which most people would say "the what?" and so that hardly seems major. Still, he's only 18.

Re: A new international tournament: The 1st Tianfu Cup
Yes, Shin's career has some parallels with Park Junghwan, rapid rise to the top of top pro land and various rating lists, but feeling somewhat overdue for his first international title given how well he does in other games (e.g. Korean and Chinese leagues). Park won his first, the Fujitsu cup in 2011 aged 18, but by then he'd already collected a fair bit of domestic silverware.
