He also need to beat Ke Jie in the best of 5 final for his second title when Ke Jie was No. 1, so he has certainly risen to the challenge each time.

xiayun, I think you mixed things up a bit. Chen got his 9d 11 years ago for getting 2 runner-ups in international tournaments and did well in domestic events (notably 8 Tianyuan titles in a row), but he didn't win his first international (the Chunlan) until 2013.
