Top Chinese amateurs vs pros

Post by Uberdude »

Yesterday I saw several games on WBaduk between top Chinese amateurs and Chinese pros. The handicap was no komi, which shows these top amateurs are really strong (probably stronger than lots of lower strength pros). The following game, from an amateur Yu Qingquan 6d I hadn't heard of before (not one of the big 4) I found particularly interesting with the way the pro Xie Ke dodged his extreme aggression, repeatedly sacrificing groups in the lower right fighting, and also on the left side. LZ analysis as I recorded the game assumes normal komi so doesn't paint an accurate picture of when black fell behind but does highlight mistakes. Go4Go tells me this was the 32nd Chinese Wanbao Cup Amateur, pro-ama competition and has some of the other games. Notable was Wang Chen 7d's (one of 4 amateur titans) victory over Xie Erhao 9p (goratings #13) by 1 point: https://go4go.net/go/games/sgfview/81961. Also Qu Ming 6d beat Zhao Chenyu 7p (#37, beat a load of 9p world champions in some prelims a while back) by 1 point: https://go4go.net/go/games/sgfview/81962.
