I disagree strongly with this. The whole idea behind the move was that we wanted a community operated site, where the community decides what happens. Jordus has already said that he would be willing to donate the domain if the community wants him to. (I'm not saying he should, I'm quite happy with the way he's running the site. Obviously he himself also supports the idea that the community as a whole decides)
I think the front page is very, uh, "holly-hobby amateur hour" (no offense, Jordus), but I think getting rid of it completely is unnecessary. It's easy to complain and criticize, and not so easy to create. I'd put forward a challenge to create a better front page (in much the same way that there was a challenge to create a better logo banner for the site), and whoever comes up with the best one, we can use their newly-designed front page as a replacement. While I'm not completely against criticism from those who can't do any better, I think in this case we as L19ers can be a little more constructive—there are a lot of talented people here.
Yes, just because you're not an official mod or admin, don't feel shy about contributing. If anyone feels like making graphics, or redesigning the front page, or making a custom pretty phpbb theme, go right ahead.

I am hoping we can extend the front page with something like carljung has mentioned. There is no particular design that the front page has to stick to. I was going to mention suggestions for a frontpage redesign once the forum features were pretty much 100%.
I agree it might be best to wait until the forum is entirely functional. Probably best to wait until Jordus and Jon finish the database transfer, too. I have some webdesign experience (hand-code valid xhtml/css etc. - see the Go site in my sig) and would be happy to help out when I have time in a week or two. Perhaps we could all offer layout/design ideas and eventually build the best frontpage we can.
Sorry, I have no idea what could be causing this site to be blocked, good luck with that though.
