The last position, that black sacrifices several stones, were first played between Fine Art and Golaxy in an AI tournament.

I think some of these variations has already become obsolete, mainly because more complex variations first found by Mi Yuting.

That's interesting. LZ still gives this as a primary variation.

My understanding is last variation tends to make sense for black if he fears the fight because white had positions on both sides, for example in cross fuseki. Otherwise getting squeezed is unpleasant. But if that's the case white can jump or attach instead of hane for 6 and then Black can't cut to connect his groups.

Despite the title I don't think you need to be 5-6 fan to find it useful. The followup video goes into more depth of the Mi Yuting variations.

Thanks for the hint to the videos. A very enjoyable overview over the variations, the related ladders and the involved liberty races.

Thank you Knotwilg for putting together such useful information. These disucussions are useful for deeper understanding of joseki and also for when to tenuki during opening or value of sente vs actual points gained. And you cannot ingnore the value of having it on SL and to be able to come back when you screw it up due to patchy memory. :clap:
