Does the Lhasa team have any connection with its namesake, or is this just part of the Chinese assertion of sovereignty over Tibet?

Team names usually come from both the organization that formed the team and major sponsor. In this case I think it was named after Lhasa Qiyuan. They play home games in Tibet so it is actually a challenge for the guest team. I read that Shin Jinseo vomited the night before this round due to altitude sickness and Hangzhou Supor was about to forfeit the captain's game. Next morning Team Lhasa send their doctor to administer medication for Shin. Only 10 minute before the game did Shin feel well enough to play.

It may be just similar to an American sports team based in Alaska or a Northern Irish team playing Premier League, although I've not heard about any of those teams yet.

I watched some documentaries about the Go scenes in the Lhasa area before, so there are a base of Go fans. Thus it may be an opportunity to promote Go in the region to have a professional team. They were promoted from B League last year(can check back on wolfking's post for B League) and acquire players like Zhou Ruiyang and Kang Dongyun in order to complete in the A League.

It is indeed a challenge to play on the Plateau for the guest team. Great for Shin Jinseo to show professionalism, manage to overcome the sickness and come back for the win. https://home.yikeweiqi.com/#/live/room/18908/1/16446376

The matches were played in the Lhasa Continental Hotel with a few Go related activities organized by the Lhasa Go Association before the matches. https://home.yikeweiqi.com/#/gonews/detail/25527?type=1
