Looking for people to learn with
Looking for people to learn with
Heya! I started go little over a year and a half ago when my friend convinced me to buy a board for us and I'd really like to find some people to talk to and discuss games with on a regular basis that wouldn't involve me making a million posts on a message board.
People on the reddit suggested I come here because no one there is strong enough to talk/review with, realistically, so I was hoping to find some stronger people here. If there's a discord or something, that'd be great, or maybe just DMs or something. I'm honestly not sure how to go about this other than just posting directly so I hope I'm not being stupid here.
Attached is a game I played against a 3dan to kind of show the level I'm talking about. (I'm white, obviously). I'd just post an Eidogo link, but they're out of space, unfortunately.

And that White player plays extremely well for having started 1,5 years ago.Uberdude wrote:That black player was not 3 dan.
Which means the OP has played many games already, of decent quality.
Which begs the question, why post a 6H game to show the level? Against a 3d who is obviously no 3d.
This is weird.

Some people seem to find it amusing/?? to post games by bots, state they are played by themselves, and ask for reviews. Maybe they want to people to criticise their moves and then turn around and say "Haha, that was LeelaZero, it's way stronger than you, you are wrong doofus!".

Well, clearly we don't fall for it. I don't mind being tested.Uberdude wrote:Some people seem to find it amusing/?? to post games by bots, state they are played by themselves, and ask for reviews. Re: Looking for people to learn with
If White is really this strong, he should be reviewing his own game FOR us giving his thoughts on why he made the moves he did. LOL
I notice that in move 110 he commented on a possible variation by black. Question is why would white allow that in the first place. Maybe he should tell us why he made such a decision.

You all know that lz can't play proper handicap games. Stop being dicks. It also clearly says that the 3d is an AI. Do any of you bother actually looking into things, or just beat on your chest whenever a new player shows up?

No. It says that the black player is an AI. I can believe the black player was an AI player that self described as 3d. I can release a Go program with a mode called 3 dan but that plays weaker than a human 3d in various ranking systems, particularly if on lower power hardware than when I labelled it as such. No player deserving of the 3d label would play a move as stupid as 264 or 286 for example (except maybe in a byo-yomi panic).Justadudewithadeck wrote:It also clearly says that the 3d is an AI.
LZ can beat some weak other AI on an inaccurately described 3d mode with 6 handis. Also there are other bots like KataGo which are better at handicap, or the LZ handicap/dyanmic-komi mode mod.Justadudewithadeck wrote:You all know that lz can't play proper handicap games.
Yes, I replayed the game to come to the conclusion that black is not of 3d strength and that white is very strong. Based on the game and prior experience I consider it more likely that white was played by a bot than a human after 1.5 years of playing. If OP returns and posts a more sensible game he/she played then I am ready to congratulate them on their rapid improvement.Justadudewithadeck wrote:Do any of you bother actually looking into things
Do you address me with this?Justadudewithadeck wrote:Stop being dicks.
viewtopic.php?f=11&t=16660 is a recent example of a new player showing up, asking sensible questions from a new player, receiving lots of help and appreciating it.Justadudewithadeck wrote:or just beat on your chest whenever a new player shows up?

Re: Looking for people to learn with
If you had ever spent a minute on this forum, you would have known there is abundant, generous and uncompromised support for any genuine new player appearing here. Why this generosity should be provoked with your kind of trolling, I don't know. Just bother to actually look into this forum and come back again to tell us we beat our chest whenever a new player shows up. And bear with us that we're somewhat suspicious of a player who has achieved high dan strength in 1,5 years, asking for help based on a 6H game he won against a 3d (the 3d getting the handicap).Justadudewithadeck wrote:You all know that lz can't play proper handicap games. In other words: stop being a dick.
